What to do when visiting Maui!
In the first place let me just say that Maui is what you “think” Hawaii would be. Rainbows, waterfalls, beaches, palm trees, beautiful sunsets, and sunrises, luaus. It’s paradise!
But where do you go? What to do?? Yes, you can sit on the beach all day, or…. You can go explore! I, of course, choose the latter!
We booked the Road to Hana tour before we left through our travel agent. This is who we went with Valley Isle. You can drive this road yourself if you want, I suggest leaving it to the pros that do it daily.
There are awesome views along this barely two lane road, and I mean barely two lanes. This is a must when going to Maui! You get to see the rain forest, and the drivers are so knowledgeable. We learned about pineapples and pandanus, and how to tell them apart.
They tell you about the history of the area and have great stories to tell, things you will not learn by driving the road yourself. If you do want to take more time I suggest doing the tour then venturing out another day on your own. This tour is definitely a do not miss.
Here are some of the views you will see along the way.
I have a fear of fish, I don’t swim in water that has any fish period! This being said I still wanted to see the marine life but was not going snorkeling. How did I manage this? Maui Ocean Center of course! I was able to see All the Marine life without being in the water with them! Which is good since you will even see sharks which you don’t want to see near you at all!
I must also mention Parasailing DH went and had a blast! While this may be true that it is a blast it isn’t my cup of tea. In this case, I was just as happy to set on the shore and video tape him! While like I said this was not my cup of tea but if it is yours by all means go!
Lastly, I did not attend a luau, I know I know! Before you say anything, I felt there were other things I wanted to do then go have a pig roast. Although I did watch hula dancers at the hotel which I think was much better since they were kids from a local school. Of course, if a luau is your idea of something you want to see then, by all means, go see one! Nevertheless what I got to see from the comfort of the hotel Tiki bar was just as enjoyable for me.
While Maui is great for just relaxing. Although that may be true, rent a car and just drive around. In fact, we saw feral goats yes there are goats there, they are not native but were brought over and ended up being wild maybe they got loose or released I have no idea they also have feral cats all over brought over to control the pests. Above all else watch the sunsets are amazing it’s like the sky is on fire.
So if Maui is on your bucket list I suggest you make sure to add a road to Hana tour to it!
